Yesterday, two holes were drilled in front of our home. One hole was off the end of the shoal and the other was 100 yards west. The ice thickness at the first hole was 5 inches and at the second 6 inches. The ice sheet at both points is formed of 2 inches of clear "blue" ice with the remainder being "white" ice.
These measurements in no way mean that the same thickness or consistency exists all over the lake. There have been uneven freeze locations and there are "blowholes" in various locations on the ice pan. There are also slush spots around the shoreline which occur as the lake water level starts to rise.
There have been snowmobiles out on the lake over the past couple of days and I think there are still dangers with the ice !
