Another Early Bird


Yesterday, we saw a Kingfisher sitting on the hydro wires out at the culvert and we had Robins in the trees at the boathouse. To-day, at about 7:30 am, we spotted this early bird out on the lake ice off Second Point. It's the Blue Heron, back from a winter in the southern USA. It's just hanging out on the ice, looking around, and preening itself ! The ice thickness below it is about two feet. The picture, while taken at 115X on a tripod, is still a bit blurry because of the very high wind at the time - but you can still tell it's the Heron ! We notice this year, that despite the persistence of snow and ice, the biological clocks of the birds and animals are all saying it's Spring...
