Purple Loosestrife Sighted

To-day, a large single plant was found at the junction of Trapper's Trail and Highway 118 - very close to Loon Lake. The plant was growing in the wet area opposite the mail boxes on Trapper's Trail. Shortly after discovery, the plant was pulled from the wet area and destroyed.
Purple Loosestrife is an invasive species and can crowd out native plants and reduce food, shelter, and nesting sites for wildlife, birds, turtles and frogs, particularly when thick stands of the plant develop.

The sighting has been reported to the OFAH Invasive Species Hotline.

Here's a link for information about the plant:

Purple Loosestrife is not common to our immediate area. This is the first incident I know of it being sighted. While the plant is beautiful, it is not a plant we want growing near Loon Lake. Efforts should be made by anyone finding it to destroy the plant.
