The arrival of this little Mourning Dove tells us that Spring isn't too far away! Every year for at least the last four, she has arrived all by herself, and stays for a while before moving northward. She reverses her plans each fall when she returns for a short stopover on her southward journey. Uncanny when you think about it!
Every morning during her stay, she comes for feeding at daybreak and after she's eaten, and after the sun has been up for a while, she rests on the warm boards of our front steps until she's warm and decides it's time to eat again. She stays here all day, leaving just before sunset to rest for the night in the nearby dense evergreens.
And if she isn't a sign of Spring, today, we had our first chipmunk at the door - looking for peanuts.....
Yes - Spring's finally coming!
