Right now, we have seven fish huts on our lake. Connected to each fish hut, there's usually a snowmobile or an ATV to get to and from the hut; a power ice auger to cut holes in the ice; an electronic fish finder to see the bottom and any fish below the hole in the ice; a propane heater and perhaps even a stove; and an assortment of lures and rods. Quite a sizable investment per hut!
And don't even think about the hours spent trying to catch the big one!
This winter, the fishing's been very poor, not just in our lake but in others across the County. Nobody is catching anything! We were in a fishing tournament last weekend where we were part of a group of twenty-three fishers that stood out on a cold and wind swept lake for several hours and caught absolutely nothing.
This little mink is perhaps the most successful fisher there can be. It'll find a hole or large crack in the ice near the shore so it can get to and from the water to fish. After diving into the water it's back out in less that five minutes with a handsome prize for it's dinner. What's really amasing is that it'll keep doing that until it can't eat any more !
No doubt about it - there's a message here !!
