The results are all in for the 2009 Invasive Species tests for Loon Lake! The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters , who did the analysis reported no evidence of Zebra Mussels or Spiny Water Flea.
And at the time of sampling, we noticed that the water sample gathered between the public boat launch and the large island had water that was very gelatinous in nature. At my request, the sample was sent to a laboratory for further analysis. The gelatinous water was found to contain Hollopedium Gibberum, a zooplankton that feeds on various plankton. This zooplankton lives across a very wide range of northern arctic lakes in both Europe and North America. It is also found in various basins of the Great Lakes and in many inland lakes.
