This is a very rare picture. It’s one of a series that was taken yesterday afternoon. Every year, for as long as I can remember, there has been a river otter come past our home at about ice-out time. And yesterday was April 21; and the ice is on it’s way out. This pair of otters paused from what was a very active half hour cavorting in the slush ice and water in front of our home. But they weren’t playing - for every year in the late April to early May timeframe, otters mate. How lucky we were to see and photograph this rarely seen miracle of Nature. We wish the parents the very best success in having a family!
