West Shore & Loon Lake Update

A beautiful sunny, windy, Spring Day! From the top picture, you can see the ice is still on Loon Lake. I have no idea how thick the ice pan actually is, but from it's appearance I don't think it'll be too long before the ice goes out. However, it has not yet started to move around the lake and break up on the shores, nor is it very far out from shore! So it'll be a bit of a wait.

From the bottom picture, the Gregory Road is still out of service and there's still a strong river current. The actual channel cut through the road is easily four feet deep with all of the gravel washed down stream, leaving behind large rocks that were placed decades ago.

The ice on Loon Lake, combined with the continued drainage from Loon, Wenona, Long, and Miskwabi lakes will eventually be passing down the Burnt River, encountering the causeway on the Gregory Lane.

And there's rain in the forecast!

I hope the breach will be left open to avoid repeat problems with water finding it's way down to the dam!

From my limited vantage point and from walking in the bush today, I can say that most of the snow is now gone from the bush.
