West Shore Update
Thanks to the efforts of the Trent Severn Waterway staff, the lake level dropped 7.5 cm last night and about the same today. They accomplished this feat by putting a stop log in the dam controlling Long Lake and Miskwabi Lake. This relieved the water load on the Loon Lake dam.
As you can see from this picture, the severity of the water surging through this breach is reduced from yesterday, even though there's still a lot of water flowing!
The water flowing around cottages on the Gregory Lane is reduced; the Gregory Lane is starting to dry out; and the water level has dropped somewhat at Sunrise.
The plan of leaving the breaches open and allowing the water to drain has worked well. I hope the breaches will be able to be left open longer to drain more water, particularly since there's still a lot of water to remove; there's a lot of ice to disappear on the lake; and rain is in the forecast for mid-week. To close the breaches would entrust the culvert
on the Gregory road to remove the water load.
Most of the snow has disappeared from the bush.
