Hopefully - The End of a Saga...

As we head into this Fall season, the subject matter of the Gregory Lane Culvert once again steps to the forefront.

This year, however, brings with it some very good news! And news that will hopefully bring to a close the ongoing saga that has been so troubling for many members of the West Shore of Loon Lake for several years.

The contractor and the consultant that replaced the old culvert in the Fall of 2012 have made an offer to repair the eroded embankments and improve drainage completely at their expense.

An offer appreciated and recently accepted by the Gregory Road Cottager's Association !

Included in the offer, the contractor and the consultant will be placing large rocks at the bottom of the existing embankments to act as anchors and then building up the slopes to the sides of the road. Finally, the slopes  will be covered with a cement grout to prevent erosion.

At the same time that the embankments are being repaired, an additional two foot diameter "overflow" culvert will be laid beside the existing culvert to help drain water.

With all of this work completed, and with the work from the previous "Rockfest" held at the end of this past summer, the West Shore of Loon Lake should have a much improved water crossing!

And just to make sure it all works OK, Loon Lake's water levels and the water flowing in the river will be watched and carefully studied during the Spring 2015 freshet.

In preparation for the late October work, the Trent Severn Waterway has drained Loon Lake and the Burnt River to the lowest water level seen in several decades.
