I have received the results from this year's water testing done by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment. The testing is done every seven years and includes detailed chemical tests done at the top and bottom of the water column; as well as dissolved oxygen testing done every meter throughout the water column.
These tests are all about the health of our lake; how well it is surviving; and how well it supports everything that lives in the lake.
The test results indicate that Loon Lake:
- has a pH within the 7.6 - 7.8 range which is slightly alkaline.
- is unlikely to have algal blooms because it's total phosphorus level is below the threshold value.
- has no indication of issues related to suspended solids or nitrogen compounds
- has dissolved oxygen levels that are very good almost to the bottom of the lake. This means there is very good optimal habitat for lake trout or other cold water species. Dissolved oxygen levels have been relatively stable from sampling events in 2001, 2007, and 2014.
The Ministry of the Environment summarizes the results of the testing by stating " Loon Lake has very good water quality".

Clearly good news!
