As we speed toward summer, it's hard to appreciate that it's May 22!
Believe it or not, there was trace snow in town on the weekend.
Our lake water is quite high and there's a lot of "floaters" if you're out in your boat - so be careful not to hit one. The mosquitos have arrived and there are still black flies left. The trees are pretty well fully leaved and it's hard to see back into the bush.
On the West shore, the continuation of the Gregory Lane as far as Portage Lake is in pretty rough shape with ruts and deep ditches from washouts.
Despite the Lake Trout season being open and Walleye opening last week, there has been very little fishing activity on the lake.
I'm glad to report that we've had no more bear activity at our barbecue and that attacks on our permanent bird feeder have stopped.
The swampy lake water smell that we experienced during the winter has now completely disappeared. The MOE agrees with me that it was probably caused by the rapid dying of large amounts of algae once oxygenation of the lake water stopped. Hopefully that was a one time phenomena!
