Giving Back to Loon Lake

You come to Loon Lake to enjoy the weekend or even longer. And you never like to leave!

Have you ever wondered if there's anything you could do for Loon Lake?

Perhaps in return for the enjoyment that you get from being here or perhaps to somehow protect the lake?

If don’t have an answer; it’s easier than you think to do "something". And it need not take away much of your time from enjoying the lake.

The way to do it is through volunteering.

While there are already volunteer activities such as organizing social events and gathering water samples for testing, there are other projects for volunteers.

Your choices are almost endless. You can work by yourself or in a group of like-minded people. And your activity can range from picking up empty worm containers around the shores to sitting at Municipal Council meetings listening to by-law discussions for anything that may affect Loon Lake.

Here's just one example of something else that begs attention: I don’t know if you go paddling or kayaking from the mouth of the Burnt River to the dam at the other end of Stump Lake, but this once pristine area is starting to become a collection of parts from old rafts, docks, and duck hunting blinds.

An eyesore that needs cleaning up! It should be collected and taken away for proper disposal in the Town landfill.

Some disassembly may be required and scouting beforehand to see if a tow rope; a hammer; a pry bar; or a saw, would be good tools to take along.

The time to do such work is during the  higher summer water levels that allow boating in the river.

I'd guess that there's enough junk in the river to fill at least several car trailers.

While this is just one example of how you can "give back" to Loon Lake, it is one good way of helping out!

Enjoy!
